He looked up and told me I looked like a Princess,
I laughed and said, Oh, it’s just a dress…
He looked up and beamed a gorgeous smile.
I laughed and said, I’m a little overweight but it’s in style…
He looked up and said, but you really look so pretty in that dress.
I laughed and said, well… I have no one to impress,
He looked up and said but to me you look beautiful.
I cringed and felt a little doubtful…
He looked up and said, ‘I love you mum.
I looked down and said, ‘I love you too son…
He looked up and blew me a kiss with a smile.
I looked down and realised what a beautiful moment worthwhile.
To know in his eyes that I have the beauty of a Princess,
He showers me with genuine love and nothing less.
He teaches me that I can love me for me,
And to go beyond my flaws and for a moment to just see,
That beyond my faults and imperfections, I’m raising a beautiful son,
Who respects the beauty of women, no matter what shape or form they come.
What a gift that he believes in telling women that they are beautiful,
I must remember to nurture that all his years through.
I looked down and said, well my Super Hero is you,
He laughed and said, oh mum that’s not true!
I looked down and said, well it is to me,
He looked up and pulled a funny face with glee…
My little boy, you’ve taught me more than I could ever imagine,
You make me feel like a heroic Princess in action.
So carry on being a Super Hero in your youth,
Keep your heart open and speaking the truth.
Remember that your spirit is lit with beauty too,
Promise me through your years you’ll always believe that is true…
