I had lunch with this group of awesome boys this week,
I smiled at them all as each one wanted to speak.
They talked of the memories of you in their life,
The ones where you all got up to mischief and strife…
Their smiles still looked like the little boys I once knew,
The ones that I used to boss around when they were with you,
But now they’re much bigger and stronger than me,
It’s been 20 years since I’ve seen them you see…
The last time I saw them was that very sad date,
Where we couldn’t believe that this was to be your fate,
That at just nineteen years old you were to say your final goodbye,
And tears streamed down our faces as the world heard us cry…
Young men just at the beginning of life to unfold,
It was hard to take in at the time I am told,
So, 20 years has passed by since we lost your soul,
But no one took the place of a mate in your role…
Now they are gorgeous, successful, happy young men,
Who share memories about you every now and then,
They say you live on in their hearts as days go by,
And they tell your story so much better than I…
Your mates were with you your whole life through,
A bond that’s never been broken with this gorgeous crew,
It was an honour to sit around a table with them,
Talk of the little brother I had and lost back then…
As they laughed and shared photos throughout the afternoon,
I wished you could’ve walked around the corner anytime soon,
You’d be so proud of these mates and what they’ve become,
But I’m sure you were there in spirit shining through the sun…
When I had lunch with this group of gorgeous boys this week,
I smiled at them all as each one wanted to speak,
My heart wished we weren’t just sharing memories of you in their life,
And that you were still here with them getting up to mischief and strife…
Your mates were with you your whole life through,
A bond that’s never been broken with this awesome crew,
It was an honour to sit around a table with them,
Talk of the little brother I had and lost back then…
